About us
A spark was ignited years ago when an 8th grade student was placed in my class reading at a second grade level. It was heartwrenching to see him struggle, so I spent my prep period that year working with him one-on-one. Even though I was using an explicit, systematic, research-based reading curriculum, I wished I knew more about how to individualize the reading instruction to address just the areas of reading he needed help on to accelerate his progress and close the gap. At that time I had my Education Specialist Instruction credential, a Master of Arts in Education, and years of teaching experience, but still felt that I needed more knowledge and experience to better help my students in reading.
I was eager to learn more, so I enrolled in a reading specialist program. After I completed the program, I felt better equipped to not only teach reading but to individualize it to meet the needs of each student. I switched to the elementary school level, focusing on early intervention, before kids reach middle school. I have been here ever since.
Our Vision:
A community where children—no matter their background—receive reading instruction they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Our Mission:
To provide individualized reading instruction to children who struggle in reading.
