Full of sass. Vocal. Bright. When I started working with Sophie she was reading at a kindergarten/early first grade level. In a period of four months, she closed the gap and was reading at grade level with one phonics skills goal remaining. Her mom wasn’t worried and neither was I. Sophie went from struggling to read on her own to reading chapter books independently in a matter of months.

Hardworking. Respectful. At the start of the school year, one his teachers approached me about working with him in reading since his instructional reading level was at the first grade. The only free time I had was my prep period during his English class, which made things a bit tricky. We would need agreement from a site admin, his English teacher, his parents, and Jayden to move forward with the change since I would be providing reading instruction during his regular class time. We all agreed. Jayden worked hard all year and made tremendous growth. The week before school let out for summer break, Jayden’s instructional reading level was at the fifth grade.
